NEW YORK APOSTILLE

In New York, Birth certificates for apostille and embassy legalization must be recently issued certified copies either from the local Vital Records Office or from the NYS Department of Health in Albany, NY. Most local New York birth certificates for apostille must be issued within one year. Older records may be rejected.

NYC Certificate of Birth for apostille and embassy legalization must be recently issued long form with the letter of exemplification. The only way to get the letter is to apply through the NYC Department of Health (or online with Vitalchek) and select Apostille as the reason for new request. Any other reason will not work NYC vital records apostille.

NYC Marriage Certificate for apostille and embassy legalization  must be recently issued extended copy with "wet" signature. The only way to get it is to apply for the certified copy at the NYC Marriage Bureau. Regular copies and certified copies without "wet" seal are not eligible for NY Apostille.
